Archery is has become a sporting event. Archery was added to they Olympics in 1972 at the Munich games. At first, only individual competitions took place. Archery team competitions were added to the list of events in 1998.

Archery has been used for combat and hunting. Since guns have become readily available over the years, archery has been on the decline. There are still bow hunters in the hunting world carrying on this tradition. Although, the styles of bows used for hunting have changed throughout the years.

Boy Scouts can earn a merit badge in archery. There are requirements they have to meet to earn this badge.
