Free August Music Concerts in Sierra Madre, California
Free Concerts Meet a Variety of Musical Tastes in Sierra Madre During August
Sierra Madre, CA 91024
United States of America
Sierra Madre is less than 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles. Driving on the freeways in the LA basin, it appears that each community simply runs into another one and no separation exists between smaller cities. Yet, this town of 11,000 residents live in a distinct community situated at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. The community is located north of the 210 freeway and above the basin which physically sets it apart from surrounding areas.
Concerts in Sierra Madre take place in Memorial park, a five-minute walk from the downtown area with popular coffee shops and restaurants in addition to local boutique stores and professional offices.
Here is the August free concert line-up:
August 2 Silver Beatles, Beatles Cover Band
August 9 Aluminum Marshmallow - Rock & Roll
August 16 The Late Bloomers - Acoustic Folk
August 23 Joel Penner Sextet Jazz Ensemble
August 30 Fairytales and Fantasy V - Musical Theater
Although the park is right on the main street, it's relatively quiet and the park borders quiet residential neighborhoods.
Enjoy a full Sunday in Sierra Madre, designated an All America city in 2007. Take a vigorous hike up the Mount Wilson trail and bring extra water in the summer, have an early dinner at a local restaurant, get a cup of coffee (iced in August!) and then enjoy the concert.
Another pre-concert activity for those who aren't familiar with the town could include driving north to the top of Baldwin Avenue and then exploring the residential streets running along the base of the foothills.
Some have older homes and narrow streets giving a true mountain community atmosphere.
Community events take place throughout the year including:
- Annual wine tasting in February, sponsored by the Friends of the Sierra Madre Library
- The Wisteria Festival in March
- The 4th of July Committee hosts a 4th of July parade down Sierra Madre Boulevard every year
The town also has its own Sierra Madre Playhouse with a regular schedule of shows year after year and the Rose Parade Float Association is busy keeping the town represented in the world famous Rose Parade.
The historical nature of the city is also seen through the bungalow style of homes which were popular in the greater Pasadena area as the 20th century dawned.
Residents of Sierra Madre take great pride in their city which also has 65 full-time employees.
Come for a free evening concert in the park and then come back again for dinner and a show.

LA is 60 suburbs in search of a city, I hear, lol. We have a shell for free music here, with lawn seating in front. Really cool idea. Enjoy!
