Entertainment Ideas for Smaller Budgets

Regina Sunderland
Do you love the festivities of Christmas? Many of us do and with only a couple of weeks left until the Winter Festivals are over there are still a few lovely Entertainments to be visited. If you are a resident of Las Vegas you are probably already familiar with most of them, but for those of you thinking of visiting the City you may just want to take a pen and pencil out, and take down some notes. I have tried to list the various Shows, Lights and Entertainments in order from cheap to expensive. I hope you will find something you may just enjoy!

Free Entertainments!

The Vegas Tenor Concert on December 20th 2008 at 3 pm.

The Department of Leisure Services is the wonderful sponsor of this breathtakingly inspiring and free Holiday Concert performed by the outstanding Talents of Lou Ragland, Freddie Empire, Lambus Dean and Latif Shadi. You can take the performance in at the West Las Vegas Arts Center located at 847 W. Lake Mead Blvd. For further information you can always call: 702-229-4800

Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens decked out in Winter Wonderland splendor provides many reasons for photo opportunities, enjoyable moments and free wonderment. Available to you free of charge with the courtesy of the Bellagio Staff from December 7th until January 3rd. You can't miss the Bellagio right down on the Strip. For further information feel free to give them a call at: 702-693-7111

Sam's Town Mystic Falls Indoor Park is offering a free Show daily at 6pm, 8pm and 10pm. If you are tired of being on the Strip you might want to take a look at this Casino on Boulder Hwy. Their free Winter Show gives you a festive atmosphere with indoor snow, light shows and water ballet. Why not enjoy a lovely cup of hot cocoa while watching the Show unfold right before your eyes. Need more information? Give them a call at: 702-456-7777

Chocolate Lovers heads up on this one! Chocolate Wonderland at the world famous Ethel M Factory and Cactus Gardens located at 2 Cactus Garden Dr. in Henderson. Take a walk through the 3 Acre Cactus Garden daily from sundown until 10 pm until January 1st and enjoy the thousands of Lights putting together this year Theme of Chocolate Wonderland. Of course most of the Casinos up and down the Las Vegas Strip will have some sort of holiday decoration up, from hundreds of lights to extremely high decorated Christmas Trees, so plan on making an evening walk down the strip part of your free winter celebration experience.

Under $10.00 Tickets!

Sadly not everything is going to be free around here nor would you really expect it to be, but you can find some pretty nice little entertainments for under $10.00 a person.

Annual Pass holders have free Entry, all others will pay $8.00 per Adult and $6.00 per Child 5 years until 17 years old. Kids 4 and under are free. Extra charge for Carriage and Train Rides, but all Museums, Galleries, performances by roaming entertainers, a puppet show and wonderful decorations are included in the Ticket Price. For our Bingo loving seniors allow me to suggest: A Holiday Luncheon on December 17th from 12:30 until 2:30 pm. You must be 50 Years or older to qualify for this and the cost is a low $3.00 per person. Enjoy a lovely Lunch followed by Bingo and Entertainment. You can enjoy this relaxing and fun time at Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 Missouri Ave. If you would like to find out more about this please call: 702-455-7573

And for our little ones under age 12 you may want to consider this fun little activity! Holiday Story Time on December 19th from 1pm - 3 pm. Wonderful Winter Stories and crafting (the kids can take home what they make) put on by our friends at the Whitney Recreation Center at 5712 Missouri Ave. The cost is only $2.00 per Child/ Person.

Under $20.00 Tickets!

A little bit higher, but still within a price range that shouldn't leave you gasping for air.

Take your entire Car full of Passengers through the "Gifts of Lights" at Sunset Park for $13.00 per Vehicle. Sunset Park is located at 2601 E. Sunset Road, Henderson and the Gifts of Lights is open for Visitors for a nice relaxed drive through entertainment starting at 5 pm daily until January 4th. The Attraction closes at 10 pm on Sunday to Thursday and 9 pm on Friday, Saturday and Holidays. This is really worth seeing and a wonderful way of getting in all your Christmas lights in one place.

Opportunity Village does not only do a lot of good for handicapped People around our Valley, but they also put on a wonderful Winter Spectacular this time of year. Visit the Magical Forest and remember what it was like to be a kid full of awe. May I suggest you splurge a little and go for the Passport at $16.00 per Adult and $14.00 per Kid for unlimited Rides? I would like to liken it to a traditional Christmas "Carnival" in our Desert City. Don't miss out if you can afford to go. It is located at: 6300 W. Oakey Blvd and opens nightly at 5:30 pm until December 30th.

Of course there are plenty of wonderful Concerts in the Casinos, but I wanted to focus more on the Events for Families. I hope you will enjoy the Winter Entertainments here in Las Vegas and happy Holidays to all!

Always wanted to go see some of the Las Vegas sites. No interest in gambling.
