Crocheted Christmas tree ornaments look great on the tree! They also make terrific hand-made gifts, and are cute on a present or envelope instead of a bow.
This ornament is in the shape of a wrapped present, complete with gift bow. The pattern is very easy and it doesn't take long to make, so this is an ideal project for a beginner.
I used red as my A color and green as my B color, but you can use whatever colors you like.
ch= chain
dc= double crochet
sc= single crochet
Crochet Pattern: Christmas Ornament, Wrapped Present
Finished ornament is approximately 3 inches by 3 inches.
Gauge is not important for this project.
Size H hook
any weight yarn plus 3 7-inch pieces of contrasting color yarn
With Color A, make the "present":
1. Ch 8
2. dc in third ch from hook (counts as first dc) and each dc across.
3. Ch 2, turn (counts as first dc) dc in each dc across and top of beginning ch.
4. Ch 2, turn (counts as first dc) dc in each dc across and top of turning ch.
5. Ch 1, do not turn. Sc in each stitch down each side, three sc in each corner, all the way around.
6. Join with slip stitch. Finish off and weave in ends.
With Color B, make the "bow":
1. Tie one strand to third sc from the corner on the top.
2. Tie same strand to third sc from the corner on the bottom.
3. Tie one strand to middle sc on the left side.
4. Tie same strand to middle sc on the right side.
(Make sure the yarn is not so tight that it pulls, not so loose that it sags.)
5.Weave in all ends.
6. Place last strand under the project. Pull one end up on the northeast side of where the two strands cross, pull the other end up on the southwest side, and make a knot to secure all strands.
7. Tie in a bow.

nice
My friend is planning on teaching me how to crochet soon... I really need lessons, because I really didn't understand these directions, so if this is for a beginner, I must be a pre-beginner!
How sweet. Reminds me of all the crochet ornaments my great-aunt made over the years! :)
