Free EBooks and Audio Books

There Are Literally Thousands of Free Ebooks Out in Cyberspace

There are several ePublication sites that include text, audio, and video files that you can download to your PC. Many of these sites have a fee involved, even if it is of a nominal cost. However, there are a few that you can find that don't come with that hindrance.

So how would you like to have your own personal library consisting of tens of thousands of books and audio books at your finger tips - or more appropriately, at the click of your mouse and for free. Yes you say; but many of the available current online books have a cost involved, and frankly, sometimes all I'm really looking for are the old "Classic Literature" of the past: Chaucer, Doyle, Twain, Stoker, Plato, Socrates, Wells, Whitman; well you get the idea. What if I said you can find these and many more of the great authors completely for free? Does that sound like a good deal to you?

Well here it is your search is over: Project Gutenberg provides more than 30,000 free downloadable eBooks mostly in HTML, text, and pdf format. These book files can be read right from your PC or loaded on a laptop, notepad, or iPhone for example. Here is the websites home page internet address: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

From the home page of the Gutenberg there is a Top 100 list of books you might find interesting if you're looking for what downloads are popular today. You will also find books published in many languages; in some cases you can find the same book published in multiple languages. Though many of the book formats are in HTML and TXT, there are some that are photo copies of the entire book in the original appearance: hardback covers, yellowed paper, and all.

Another great source for free books in audio format is Librivox at http://librivox.org/ The files are in mp3 and ogg formats. Librivox also has some material in podcast or streaming audio as well as video formats. You can search their inventory by book title or author. You can also search by subject if you enter the subject term in the "Title" search block. One of the interesting things about Librovox is that you can join as one of the recording contributors providing your voice to the books that users download or listen to online. Instructions for being a contributor are found on the home page of Librivox. http://librivox.org/

With all the available titles and authors you will never run out of books to read. In fact, you might find a need to copy your downloaded books onto disk and take them to work for a little light reading. Just don't let the boss catch you; he or she might want a copy too.
