Tamara McRill
Send a quick Chinese New Year greetings to friends and family, by using free e-cards. Styles run from serious to funny, with or without video and music. Here are the top five websites to send free Chinese New Year e-cards from.

1. ChineseNewYearECards.com holds pages of e-cards strictly for the Chinese New Year. Styles range from formal and inspirational to fun and quirky. They are the best free site to find funny tiger caricature e-cards. This is perfect, since 2010 is the year of the tiger.

The sites card data base is nicely categorized, you simple click on the template you like. This will preview the card for you and allow you to play any video or sound the e-card may come with. If you like the e-card, then click the "send this ecard" button. That will take you to a text editor, that will allow you to type in a message. Fill in your name and email, plus that of the person you are sending it to. You can then preview, then send your free e-card.

2. For good luck and fortune Chinese New Year e-cards that will make you smile, try 123Greetings.com. They have a two page selection of roly-poly Buddhas, cute tigers and one particularly hilarious looking dragon. He dances around to music, while you click on fortune cookies, to reveal what they say. This free e-card site has the same submission template process as the first one.

3. BlueMountain.com has 19 free Chinese New Year e-cards. These are done in a friendly, simplistic cartoon style, that would be perfect for younger children. They all have changing video elements. Some have interactive click-able links, to show a different video of card elements. One notable version has a woman dancing with a dragon. Another allows you to click on a firecracker. You then watch it take off and explode.

This site offers a free trial for 14 days only. They will ask you for your credit card and billing information. If you do not feel comfortable with this or don't think you will remember to cancel your membership, please try another site.

4. For free firecracker Chinese New Year e-cards, try 101ChineseNewYear.com. These are also e-cards that will delight children. Most include music and video of the firecracker going off. The submission template is the same as numbers one and two.

5. ChinaHighlights.com only has three Chinese New Year e-cards to choose from, but they are the most beautiful ones I have found. They are postcard style e-cards, which means they do not play graphics. These three free e-cards are perfect for more formal greetings or for loved ones who's computers cannot handle video.

To send the free e-card, simply click the send button. This will take you to a template that allows you to write a short message. There are even sample greetings you can click on and the words will automatically go to the template. Enter contact information and send.
