Michelle M. Guilbeau
Summer is a time for kids to play outside, relax and not have the worries of school. However, summer is also unfortunately the time when many students lose some of the information and knowledge they had gained throughout the school year.

It is important for kids to not only keep their bodies active in the summer but also their minds and there are many available fun educational summer activities for kids that are free. A child can have so much fun by participating in these free educational activities that they will not even realize they are learning.

Here you will find 4 free and fun summer educational activities for kids, each educational activity will be sure to peak a variety of interests so you can have your child try 1 or 2 activities or partake in all of them!

Most libraries have some type of summer reading program for kids, often the libraries will give away nice prizes at certain benchmarks in the reading program and some even have an end of the program completion celebration for kids. The summer reading programs are generally free at the public libraries and it is a great way to keep kids involved with literacy while making it fun. Many of the libraries also offer a free adult summer reading program, it is an excellent way to be involved with your child in a fun and exciting summer activity.

Many of the National Parks do not charge an entrance fee so check out the website to find out which ones you would like to visit for a wonderful free educational experience with your kids.

Free Summer Educational Activity #4: Movie in the Park

Many park districts and/or city municipalities offer free family geared movies in the public parks in the summer. While free and fun educational kid's activities in the summer are always wonderful it is even more fun to have the opportunity to go to a free educational activity in the evening with the family. While many of the movies shown are for entertainment purposes only, some of the movies do have an educational or teaching point.
