The very first tip is obvious, but extremely unused: ask someone. Believe it or not, asking someone that lives where you're visiting is the greatest way to find out all the tricks. These people need entertainment too, and they aren't spending 20 dollars a day to go tour something that's in there own backyard. Find someone that looks like they wouldn't mind giving you a moment of there time to speak to you. Ask them about the best places to go for free entertainment, nine times out of 10 they will know exactly what you're looking for, be it a great fishing area with beautiful scenery, a wonderful spot for a picnic, or even a free festival or public attraction that is being held soon. Beyond just getting an answer, it's very likely that you could possibly even make a friend out of this person, and having a friend that knows their way around whoever your visiting is a guaranteed way to have free fun on a budget travel.
Secondly, keep in mind the nature of the area your in. If you're on a costal area, without doubt, you must go to the beach! The ocean in European areas are known to be absolutely beautiful, and quite often there's tons of free fun to be had! You'll get to see a beautiful beach in beautiful weather, feel wonderful just walking with the sand under your feet, and most likely get to see some live performers doing anything from singing to fire walking. Watching performers do there act is one of the greatest forms of entertainment to many people, because these are things that just cannot be seen anywhere else.
If you're into outdoor sports, look into taking a bike ride near the beach or through a patch of forest, and look into going fishing or hiking as well. Any time you take a vacation, even if it's just a budget travel, you should always consider doing things that will yield unique results based on the land. Many people absolutely love fishing when they go on vacations. It's a great form of free entertainment that can eat up an entire day or more, while giving you even more free fun, like getting to eat fresh caught European fish!
Even if your not normally into outdoors type stuff, your on vacation, the old you is left back home, so stop thinking like that and give it a shot. Nearly everyone, outdoorsmen or not tend to love going outside and taking in fresh sceneries, it's a great way to yield free entertainment during your budget travel, and doesn't feel like you've sacrificed a thing, if anything, it feels like you've gained something.
