Labor Day is a United States federal holiday that started in 1882 by the Central Labor Union of New York City. Labor Day was made an official holiday on June 28, 1894 and in the United States, Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September. Today Labor Day can be a day of rest or a day to get out and enjoy parades and concerts and spend quality time with your family. Listed below are a few free events that's being held in the Chicago area over the Labor Day weekend.

The Hope Festival

This is a event that's held annually in Chicago and they offer free health screening and give away over 5,000 back packs filled with school supplies. There will be live performances from various artists and other entertainment for all ages. This event takes place annually on Saturday's during the Labor Day weekend.

The Taste of Polonia Festival

The Taste of Polomia is held annually over the Labor Day weekend and it runs from Friday to Monday. There will be great food and live entertainment from local rock bands.

The Chicago Jazz Festival

The Chicago Jazz Festival has been going strong for over 30 years. The festival starts Friday and runs through Monday. Each day of the festival you can enjoy live music performed by some of the most amazing jazz musicians in the country.
