To start making your clutch you will need to cut out four pieces of fabric to 10 inches wide and 2 inches wall. These will be the top band of the clutch. You will also need four matching pieces of fusible interfacing.
Now, cut out 2 pieces of exterior fabric to 5 inches wall and 3 inches wide. Fold these had long ways and trim the end into a circle, just like on th tab you see in the photo.
Now, for the bottom of the clutch you want to cut out two pieces of fabric that are 13 inches wide and 5 inches tall. Iron matching pieces of interfacing to these as well.
For the interior you will need to cut out 2 pieces of the same size fabric, but no interfacing.
Now, make the tab for your clutch tutorial. To do this face the right side soft the curved tabs together. Sew the sides and the curved area. Use a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Turn inside out. Punch out the circle to make it smooth. Sew around the sides and rounded seam about 1/32 inch in from the sedge.
Install you button hole right tin the middle, about 1 inch up from the rounded end.
Now, take your two bottom exterior panels and two interior panels. Start with one piece. Fold it in half. Mark the middle. 1 inch to the right makes a pleated. Repeat half an inch out from the first pleat. Finally, do this one final time ½ inch out from the final pleated.
Repeat on the left side.
Pin the pleats in place and repeat on the other three pieces of the clutch pattern.
Now, take one of the 10 inch wide strips and lay one face down on the top edge of each of the pleated pieces. Pin together and sew teach seam with a 3/8 inch seam allowance
Take the two exterior pieces and pay them pattern sides together. Sew the sides and bottom together with a 3/8 inch seam allowance. Repeat on the liner fabrics leaving a 4 inch opening in the bottom.
Now, turn the bottom of the clutch exterior portion inside out.
Slip the interior panel up on the outside and line the two top edges up. Right sides should be facing together. Insert the tab with button hole you made on the back middle of the bag. Face down and pin in place.
Sew this seam around the top with a 3/8 inch seam all ounce.
Turn inside out an then sew the opening in the lining shut on the clutch pattern.
Sew a button in place on the front and you are finished.
You can also sew a nice line around the top opening of the free clutch tutorial for added detail as seen in the photo.

Post a Commentwhere's the picture or tutorial?! please hurry!!!! ; )
These are wonderful tutorials but rather difficult to follow without pictures. Not sure how this can be a free pattern when there isn't one to download or to even see. Makes it very frustrated to not see pictures of any kind. First I thought the site had some bugs in it but after seeing others comment about the lack of photos, I guess that is just the way it is. I would definitely follow your articles as I think they are great but not until photos are added. Thanks though!
