To Make a Free Fabric Lap Top Bag Pattern You Will Need:

Fabric

Ruler

Scissors

Sewing Machine

Liner Fabric

Zipper

To get started you need to know the size of you laptop. This specific laptop bag pattern will hold up to a 17 inch lap top. You can size it down if you wish.

To get started on your free laptop bag pattern you need to cut out 2 pieces of exterior fabric, 2 pieces of interior fabric, and 2 pieces of heavy weight craft web out to 22 inches wide and 16 inches tall.

Go ahead and iron the craft web onto the back of the exterior pieces of fabric. Try to use a fabric like canvas for the inside. It will give stability and make a nice sturdy bag to carry your laptop in.

Now, you need one final piece of the exterior fabric, interfacing, and liner fabric. This knees to be 4 inches wide and 58 inches long. This will create the depth for the lap top bag. You can make this as wide as you wish.

Iron the interfacing onto the back of this exterior fabric pieces as well.

Now, take one piece of exterior fabric, one of the side panels and pin the strip of long fabric to it. You want the right sides facing together. Pin the top left corner and then start working your way around the bottom and the other side. Repeat this step by pinning the other exterior panel to the other side of the long strip.

Sew these seams with a ½ inch seam allowance.

Repeat this same step with the interior fabric with one exception. You want to leave a 10 inch opening on the bottom side of the bag. This only needs to be on one side of the long strip. You will use this to turn your free laptop bag pattern inside out.

Now, turn the exterior fabric part of the bag inside out.

You now need to make the handle for your fabric lap top bag pattern. You can use pre made handles from the craft store or make your own. If you want to make your own you will need to cut out two pieces of fabric 5 inches wide ad 24 inches long.

You will also need tow pieces of the heavy weight interfacing cut out to the same length.

Again, iron the interfacing to the back of the handles. Fold each hand in half length wise. Iron this down. Fold the edges in again to create a smooth edge. Iron down as well. Sew this shut using a ¼ inch seam allowance on both long sides of the handle.

Now, take the handles and pin them onto the exterior portion of the bag. They needed to be pinned to the sides and pinned upside down. Leave one to two inches of the straps sticking up over the edge.

Now, slip the liner fabric up over the exterior portion and the handles. Pin the top two ledges of the fabric lap top bag together.

Sew this top seam with a ½ inch seam allowance and turn the bag inside out. Sew the inside seam shut.

Now, pull the handles up and iron down the top seam. Sew along this edge with a fun contrasting piece of thread. This will give another layer of stability to the top of the lap top bag pattern and the handles.

You are finshed with your easy laptop bag pattern!

You made a word error. Did you mean to write (needs) to be, not (knees) to be.
