Free Family Concerts Summer 2011 in Nashville

Nashville, Tennessee is called "Music City" for a reason. A quick look at any event calendar for this summer will prove that. There is something musical going on almost every day of the week, starting in May and continuing on through August. Many of these events are focused on family entertainment. Almost all genres of music are represented, so there is truly something for everyone.

In addition to the various pop, rock and country shows going on all summer long, there are a host of free and cheap concerts all over the city, starting in May with the Regions Free Day of Music at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center on May 22. Additional shows include "A Salute to Boston Pops" on Thursday, June 9 at 8pm at East Park in Nashville, Friday, June 10 at 8pm at Bicentennial Mall in Nashville, and Sunday, June 12 at 7pm in Crockett Park in Brentwood.

Families can also enjoy "Hoe-Down" on Tuesday, June 21 at 7:30pm in Centennial Park in Nashville, and "Russian Fireworks" Tuesday, June 28 at 7:30pm, also in Centennial Park, which will have a Romeo and Juliet costume contest for the kids. Additional dates at locations further outside the Nashville area can be seen by visiting their website.

On Saturdays at 7:30pm, beginning in June and continuing through August, Centennial Park will host Big Band concerts and dancing. Come at 7 if you want to take free ballroom dancing lessons. Food will be sold at the Centennial Café, or you can bring your own. You should bring your own chairs. Perfect for families with kids who might not want to sit still for a regular concert.

There are quite a few events taking place at the Red Caboose Amphitheater in Bellevue. Jam Band Fest will be held on Friday, May 27 starting at 6pm. Fridays at 7pm in June will feature "interactive fun for kids and families" at the RCA, and Fridays at 7pm in July and August will be dedicated to live music concerts. Concert attendees to all events are encouraged to bring their own food and seating.

Crockett Park in Brentwood will have free concerts every Sunday in June and the first Monday and third and fourth Sundays in July. Every concert begins at 7pm and will feature a variety of music including country and classical, as well as several pop cover bands. Their Independence Day event will be a fireworks celebration on Monday, July 4, in honor of the holiday.
