It wasn't too long ago when a family of four could go to the movies, buy popcorn, a few sodas and snacks, for less than a hundred bucks. Those days seem like a long time ago. The economy has certainly changed and dramatically affected the spending habits of the average family. They find themselves cutting back on entertainment. Fortunately, there still are a few fun ways for the average family to spend time together and enjoy free family entertainment. Local Library Events
Visit your local library. Libraries across the country usually sponsor events that are free to everyone in the local community. Libraries in our area regularly sponsor book readings by local writers, art exhibits, movie nights, poetry readings, and much more fun entertainment. Community Playhouse
Communities across the country sponsor a community playhouse in the parks during the summer. Shakespeare in the park during the summer is one of the local favorites. They offer free plays or poetry readings to those in the community. These are fun and get the kids interested in culture along with the arts and entertainment community.

Free Movies & Music
Libraries are a great place to find the latest movies and music on DVD's that you can borrow and watch with the family. Throw some popcorn in the microwave and serve to the family while you settle back in the comfort of your home and watch some great movies or listen to the latest music. All that is required to borrow the movies or music is a library card. Library cards are free in most communities.

Internet Fun
The Internet is a great place to begin your search looking for free entertainment. There are sites like Hulu or Crackle that offer free television shows and movies. All that is required is a fast Internet connection and computer. Those who are tech savvy could easily stream the content to a large screen televison and watch with the family.

Family Fun
A good old fashioned family fun day is entertaining and free. Play one of the old board games like Scrabble. Play charades where the object is to guess a famous person, place, or event. Even take out your bikes or roller skates and head straight for the local park
