There are a lot of free activities in Charlotte that are perfect for you and your family. All it takes is a bit of investigation to find out what these activities are. Here are just a few of them that you might want to check out:
Mint Museum of Craft & Design. The museum is free on Tuesdays between the hours of 10 and 2. It is also free between the hours of 5 and 8 on the 3rd Thursday of the month, along with free live jazz. Take some time to visit. The Mint Museum is a great place to visit if you are interested in some fine art displays.
Historic Fourth Ward Walking Tour. This tour will take you back to the mid 1800's when this was one of the most prosperous areas of Charlotte. The area fell into some decline, but restoration and renovations have helped revitalize the area. Take an hour or so to take the walking tour and you will learn some interesting facts about Charlotte history, as well as get to visit some old historical buildings.
Family Fun at Blakeney. Every Friday and Saturday night between the hours of 7 and 11, the green at Blakeney Shopping Center is transformed into a music festival. This is one of the best free events I have ever been to. The music is great. Most recently a superb jazz band played. People danced. Others just watched and sipped the wine they had brought in their coolers. Kids ran and played in the grass. Lovers held hands and ate ice cream. The atmosphere is one of a big party that is laid back, relaxed, and fun. The atmosphere is very family friendly.
UNCC Botanical Gardens. These outdoor gardens are open 7 days a week to view. The hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am til 3pm, and Sunday, 1 -- 4 pm. This is a great place to take your kids to teach them about flowers and plants.
Parks and Nature Preserves. Charlotte is filled with beautiful parks and nature preserves. This is a great way to enjoy a day with your family. Pack up your bikes, Frisbees, and a picnic lunch. Enjoy walking on the trails, fishing, biking, and enjoying nature. This is always one of my favorite free activities to do. Not only does it make for some great family togetherness, it is a great way to incorporate some exercise into your day.
