Free Activities in Branson, MO: Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery

Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery is one of the most popular attractions in Branson, believe it or not. It's not hard to see why, either. This is the largest trout hatchery run by the Missouri Department of Conservation, and it has something for everyone. In addition to year-round fishing, guests can also explore the hiking trails or check out the large aquariums filled with some of Missouri's most interesting native fish.

One great benefit of traveling around Missouri is that the state parks and forests are always free for day-use. Take advantage of the breathtaking natural areas that surround Branson by visiting one of the parks and natural areas in the vicinity.

Table Rock State Park is located right outside of Branson, and it has a lot to offer anyone who enjoys the outdoors. You can go hiking, swimming, canoeing, picnicking and fishing within this state park, all for free.

About an hour's drive from Branson in Cassville, Missouri, you'll find Roaring River State Park, one of Missouri's best. The spring at Roaring River is absolutely lovely, and nature-lovers will enjoy the rugged landscape.

Just north of Branson on Hwy 65, you'll find Busiek State Forest. With over 18 miles of hiking trails, you could easily spend an hour or a day at Busiek.

For fans of nature, history and feats of engineering, there's no better place in Branson than the massive Table Rock dam. Just outside of Branson, Table Rock Lake and dam offers incredible views as well as walking trails and fishing.

Take a family stroll in Branson's historic downtown and you are sure to find plenty of interesting shops and buildings. When you head to downtown Branson, you can escape the gaudy lights and bumper-to-bumper traffic of 76 Country Boulevard, but still get a real Branson experience. Downtown Branson will give you a glimpse of the small town before its tourism days.

For those who prefer a more modern walk, check out Branson Landing, located on Lake Taneycomo. Here you can window-shop all afternoon and not run out of places to explore, or if you are in the mood to relax, you can simply sit along the banks of Taneycomo and enjoy the scenery.

Free Activities in Branson, MO: Sunday Morning Shows

Several of Branson's theaters perform free family- and religiously-oriented shows on Sunday mornings. These shows are usually composed of gospel singing and praise, so they're perfect for families who are away from their hometown church.
