Free Fans and Air Conditioners Available to All North Carolina Seniors

Lisa Stevens
The state of North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is offering free fans and air conditioner units to all seniors in the state. With summer in full swing in the state,, and temperatures state wide in the upper 80's and lower 90's, the offer is a great opportunity for seniors.

The free fans are part of an annual donation program that helps seniors who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford a portable table fan or air conditioning unit, or live in a house too old to install an AC unit. Thanks to this years donations there are over 5,400 fans available and 51 air conditioners to hand out to whoever is in need of one on a first come first serve basis.

The only qualifications are whoever requests a fan must be either over 60 years of age or be a person with a disability that a fan could help. The program offers one free fan per year to help alleviate heat problems within a persons home.

To find out if you are eligible for a free fan or air conditioner unit please call the Aging Department at (919) 733-0440.
