Free Father's Day Activities

While women look for relaxation, and maybe a brunch and a glass of champagne on Mother's Day, there are no real expectations when it comes to Father's Day. That is what makes it easy to plan Father's Day on a budget. Here are some ideas for free activities that you can plan for your husband on Father's Day.

Free Father's Day Activities: Sports

If your husband enjoys sports, plan a sporting day for him. Take Dad fishing, for a bike ride, rock climbing, or for a tennis game. These are easy and free Father's Day activities that the whole family can enjoy. If you have more family visiting, try planning a group sports activity, like basketball, football, baseball, or soccer. You can plan to spend the day in a local park if you don't have the yard space for a large game.

Free Father's Day Activities: Getting Outdoors

There are endless things that you can do outdoors that are free and would be fun for Father's Day. Think about the scenic areas in your town or city, and plan a trip to one of them. You can go hiking, plan a picnic, or just go for a nice long walk. If you live near the ocean, plan a day at the beach, ending with a nice sunset. Or, maybe stay late and build a bonfire.

Free Father's Day Activities: Home Improvement

Most of us rely on our husbands to take care of any home improvement projects around the house. This can be a little unfair if your husband also works, since these projects are often time consuming. If there is a home improvement project that your husband has been putting off, call in all the men you know and finish the project as a surprise for him. Get everyone that you can to help out and do something around the house for Dad. This would make a great surprise, and can be a free Father's Day gift, depending on what the project is. It also allows Father's Day to be a day of relaxation.

Free Father's Day Activities: Camping Out

Have a family campout in your own backyard. Set up any camping gear that you have. Create a campfire using a portable fireplace. If you don't have everything that you need, borrow from friends or family. You can sleep outdoors on Saturday night, since Sunday is a school night. Roast marshmallows, tell stories, and have fun. This is great for kids as well.

Free Father's Day Activities: Poker Night

Invite your friends over for a poker night at your house. If they have any other betting games, have them bring those too. You can make it a potluck, and have everyone bring a dish and a drink. Send the kids to bed, and enjoy a night of adult fun. You can play with the chips, or make it a small bet, like pennies or nickels.

Free Father's Day Activities: Other Ideas

When you are on a budget, you have to think creatively. Is there something that your husband has always wanted to do? Can you make it happen? Is there someone that you know that can make it happen for free? Simple things can be great fun. See if you can borrow things from friends or family. Does anyone have cool sports equipment that you don't? Think jet skis, or a kayak, a canoe, golf clubs? Maybe your husband needs a spin on the neighbor's motorcycle?

There are many ways that you can plan ahead for fun and free Father's day activities. Check your local newspaper to see if there are any local events happening that your husband might enjoy. Otherwise, be creative. You can still have fun and enjoy Father's Day, even if it is on a budget.
