The critically acclaimed musical "Fela!" will be performing for free on October 4 at Brooklyn Bridge Park. You won't get all the bells and whistles of the stage performance in the theatre, but you do get the cast and the band.
Though it will definitely be a pared-down version of the popular musical, there will be every bit as much musical magic as the real thing. "Fela!" is the story of Fela Kuti, the inventor of the funk-infused, complex percussion style known as afrobeat. Kuti developed this style as a political tool used for promoting civil rights in his native country of Nigeria.
"Fela!" will be the last seasonal performance at Pier 1, which has also hosted a slew of shows this summer including film screenings and performances by the Metropolitan Opera.
Join other musical theatre enthusiasts at Brooklyn Bridge Park's Pier 1 at Old Fulton Street at Furman in DUMBO at 6:30 PM, October 4. Admission is free.
