Free Flowing Thought- a Writer's Technique

Let Your Thoughts Flow, like a Mountain Stream

Loraine Alkire

Free flowing thoughts

Forget me nots

Future dreams

And though it seems

Silly to present on page

Thoughts that come as

I engage with pen in hand

I don't erase a single word

For free flowing thoughts

However absurd

Are just that

They come to mind like

The pages in a book

Or the smell of perfume

A glimpse inside

Just for the ride

Free flowing thoughts

Might be better to hide

But I put them to page

Like I think of this now

My pillow is soft

And my comforter Thou

I will not forget

His Name as yet

Nor will I tarry on what to say

For free flowing thought

Is meant to bray

As a horse when

He sees His Master or a

Chorus in such a disaster

At first attempt

I do not preempt

But let free flowing thoughts

Have there way.

Epilogue

Sometimes I just have to begin to write to get the juices flowing, like warm up exercise before a big race. I just feel like seeing where my mind will go. When I do this it usually presents itself in poetry or prose; probably for its sing-songy-ness. It's simple and direct, quite like my mind when relaxed. For better or worse I write to rehearse writing things more in-depth. Perhaps it is just my inner child come out to play for a few moments before I research astrophysics for a book. Whatever the case, I thought I'd share this with you. It's a crude form of poetry with not one word erased.

My fingers flew through it as my mind lazily pondered on letting my thoughts flow. Perhaps this will help other writers or artists in some way. That we should not get stuck with the 'work' of our medium but sometimes play like children; letting the clay move on its own just to feel the squish through our fingers or paint with our toes letting them go to feel the canvas as we feel what is in our soul. It can be quite cathartic to let the hand or thought 'just be' without purpose for anything great or worthy of praise. I'm not sure where this will lead me today. Sometimes it leads to great ideas or just to the strength to finish writing on a topic I'm not crazy about. After all artists have to eat, at least on occasion.

Bravo to you on this one. My free-flowing thoughts would sound so disjointed, people might think I had several personalities living inside me.

Great usage on free flowing writing- it is the best way to write for sure. The best poetry, letters, and articles are produced when you don't take pause.
