Free Fun Events in Pittsburgh During the Summer

Pittsburgh, the city of three rivers, has many free things to do in the summer. With well maintained parks, and clean air, Pittsburgh holds many opportunities for citizens and visitors to enjoy the City of Champions, without spending any money. Here are some of the free events going on in the summer.

Dollar Bank Cinema In The Park series
Bring a blanket and a cooler! Each Wednesday and Sunday night during the summer, a free movie is shown on a big screen, on Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park. The movies start at dusk and are family friendly. Some recent offerings include Wall- E, Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, Mamma Mia, and Tales of Despereaux. For more information call 412 - 255 - 2493
Free movies are also shown on different dates and venues throughout the city. Other venues include Brookline Memorial Park, Arsenal Park, West End/Elliott Overlook, East Liberty, and Riverview Park.

Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch
Sundays during the summer, catch some free music at Mellon Park, on 5th Avenue and Shady Avenue, in Point Breeze. Bring your lawn chair and some lunch, and stay to enjoy some light classical music performed by local ensembles.
The music plays at 10:30 AM and ends around noon. For more information call 412 - 255 - 8975.

Reservoir of Jazz
Live jazz music on Sunday nights from 5 to 7 PM in Highland Park
The series runs each Sunday night in August from 5 PM to 7 PM, and features area musicians performing all your favorite jazz standards. For more information call 412 - 255 - 8975

Troy Hill Spray Park
Get wet and cool off at Pittsburgh's newest spray park. This free, wet sensation can be enjoyed by children of all ages. Children cool off, walk, and run with delight as colorful sprinklers turn on and off. Located on Troy Hill at the Cowley Playground on Goettman Street. For more information, call 412 - 255 - 2539.

Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix
Zoom - zoom, beep - beep! Watch the classic cars of yesterday race through the streets of Schenley Park in the annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. Authentic vintage automobiles from the United States, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, and other countries are on display from July 13 to July 19

First Fridays At The Frick
Each Friday night, from June to September, a different music act is featured on the Great Lawn at the Frick Art and Historical Center, 7227 Reynolds Street in Point Breeze. The music starts at 7 PM and an eclectic array of performers are scheduled. From reggae to jazz, rock to celtic, there is something for everyone at the First Fridays at Frick! Jam On Walnut
This free annual concert series takes place on the last Saturday night of each summer month at Walnut Street and Bellefonte in Shadyside. Local music acts have included local favorites like The Clarks, Joe Gruschecky, Good Brother Earl, Bill Deasy, No Bad Juju, and Grapevine. International recording artists have included The Gin Blossoms, Spin Doctors, and The Smithereens. Sales of beverages benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
