Free and Fun Things to Do in South Florida

Sabrina Young
South Florida naturally is an amazing tourist destination, full of beautiful beaches, hot clubs, exotic restaurants, and terrific shopping spots. However, most of these places require you to spend tons of cash between the cost of parking, dining out, and checking out the South Florida sites. Below are a few fun places in South Florida that you can enjoy for free, no matter what your tastes.

Free Live Music and Events at the Dolphin Mall in Miami, Florida
Every weekend, the Dolphin Mall in South Miami invites a South Florida music group to play. While much of the music has a distinct Latin flavor, bands that play oldies and jazz occasionally play as well. Tables are set up in front of the stage, and many times you will find South Florida shoppers leaving behind their bags and enjoying a few minutes dancing to their favorite salsa. The Dolphin Mall hosts many other free events, from fashion shows to Christmas events. Each winter, the Dolphin Mall covers the entrance in bubbly "snow", which is fun for children and adults alike.

Tree Tops Park in Broward County, Florida
Free to the public, Tree Tops Park in West Broward County offers a pleasant park experience for those who want to enjoy a little bit of nature amidst South Florida busyness. With nature trails, pavilions, and places for children to play, Tree Tops Park is a welcome respite to relax, have a picnic, and enjoy peaceful nature.

Florida Broward County Libraries
The Broward County Library System has an extensive listing of libraries, each offering their own special free programming, including arts and crafts activities for children, art galleries, historical and scientific displays, story times and puppet shows, film clubs, and other wonderful activities.

Young at Art Children's Museum Target Free Fridays in Davie, Florida
The Young at Art Children's Museum is free to the public from 5:30 to 8:30 the first Friday of every month. The Young at Art Children's Museum, located in West Broward, has exciting hands-on art exhibits about world culture, recycling, and pop art, and traveling exhibits that feature familiar characters like Dora the Explorer, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and even the Blue Man Group. Most Target Free Fridays also include a fun and free snack like ice cream for visiting families. If you are in town during one of these free events, you do not want to miss a great time of free family fun.

Strolling Down Worth Avenue in West PalmBeach, Florida
Pack yourself a sack lunch and enjoy a stroll down Worth Avenue. With high end shops, hidden nooks and crannies, picturesque statues around every corner, and a variety of eateries, Worth Avenue is a wonderful place to have a romantic stroll with your sweetheart, enjoy a quiet lunch, or sit on a bench and people watch. Relatively close to the beach by bike, you can make a fun and free day of window shopping at all of the specialty shops and then head to the beach for some South Florida sun and surf.

Free Children's Admission at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Florida
You and your family can enjoy a day of arts and culture at the Norton Museum of Art. Offering a variety of programming from lectures to art exhibits to fun art contests, the Norton Museum is one of the major cultural attractions in West Palm Beach, Florida.
