Free Halloween Costumes: How to Dress Up as a Male Musician of Any Genre

The Eight Best Free Halloween Costume Ideas

Dress up as a musician this Halloween. Musician Halloween Costumes are easy to assemble and can be assembled from items that you already have just gathering dust around the house. I took a look at several different genres of music and based these costume ideas on some famous musicians of each music genre. Unfortunately, I was only able to cover male musicians in this article. Here are eight ideas for Halloween costumes of male musicians.

Idea #1, Metal Halloween Costumes: For this costume you will need tight-fitting black denim jeans, black sneakers, and a belt that looks Goth to go with the denim jeans. Borrow your little brother's black T-shirt or buy one that fits tight. Not skin tight, but not much looser either. A design to the lines of orange county choppers or anything that contrasts white with black and looks Goth works with this Halloween costume. If it is chilly out, a tight white or tan long-sleeved top under the t-shirt works. Or use a white thermal top, but that may look more like a rock musician than metal. Another option is a tight-fitting long-sleeved shirt. If your hair is already long, you have it made. Just let it down. Otherwise procure a wig that is shoulder-length or longer and is preferably black or dark brown. Make sure it is securely fastened if you plan to thrash it for show.

Idea #2, Rock Musician Halloween Costumes: For sneakers, any type of regular sneakers should work for this Halloween costume. Black or blue tight-fitting jeans work well; a belt is not as important here. A t-shirt that fits well is ideal, especially if it is black. Brown, red, or a stonewashed color T-shirt also work if you are staying away from the hardcore look. A thermal (hardcore) or matching color long sleeved shirt goes well under this costume while also keeping you warm. Hair can be either long or short; putting gel in it and making it stand up if it is shorter works well in rock music Halloween costumes.

Idea #3, Hardcore Punk Musician Halloween Costumes: Wear any sneakers that are not too urban, preferably a gray, black, or used white pair. Wear fitting or tight jeans of any color. Wear a short-sleeved or cut-off sleeveless t-shirt that is either white or black and is tight or not too loose fitting. A black leather jacket can be worn over the t-shirt, or the t-shirt can be worn over a thermal or tight tan/white sweatshirt. A short-sleeved button-down camp shirt of a solid color can be worn over the t-shirt or worn in place of the t-shirt. Hair can be a crew cut that is greased; medium length greased hair, or can be long and wild like the Ramones.

Idea #4, Pop-punk Musician Halloween Costumes: This costume is similar to the hardcore punk, but more mellowed out. Use the same shoes and pants, but for shirts any regular t-shirt that fits or regular camp shirt works well. Hairstyles are predominately short but not a crew cut. A regular jacket can be worn over the camp shirt for the cold weather. For these first four Halloween costumes, an electric guitar or fake electric guitar goes well with these costumes. A good way to make a fake guitar is to cut it out of cardboard and color/paste paper to it. Tape string to the guitar to make the guitar look more real.

Idea #5, Pop/Adult Contemporary Music Halloween Costumes: Wear shoes or sneakers, and jeans or dockers that are not too loose. For a shirt, a sweater works well, so does a Henley or a t-shirt under a denim jacket. Or you can go for the Michael Buble look and dress in a vest, dress shirt, and tie. Hair is medium length, nothing fancy. For Adult Contemporary music Halloween Costumes, a guitar is pretty much a necessity. You can make a fake acoustic guitar out of cardboard or bring a real acoustic guitar.

Idea #6, Country Music Halloween Costumes: These Halloween costumes are simple to make. For Halloween Costumes of Country musicians, wear cowboy boots or ordinary work boots, and jeans that look rugged. If the legs are too long, roll them up to the ankles; this gives it a more country look. Wear a button-down or flannel shirt over a t-shirt, and unbutton and roll the sleeves up if it is warm enough. For a hat, go with the typical cowboy hat. True, not every country musician wears them, but cowboy hats are synonymous with country music.

Idea #7, Male R&B Musician Halloween Costumes: Wear loose baggy jeans and urban sneakers for this costume. Wear an urban T-shirt under a suit jacket. The T-shirt does not have to be baggy, and should be tucked in. An alternative costume is to go the Justin Timberlake route and wear shoes with a suit and tie.

Idea #8, Rap/Hip-hop Halloween Costumes: Use any stylish Nike, Puma, or other urban sneakers for this costume. Baggy pants are essential, preferably a pair made baggy, but a pair of too-large pants held up by a belt may have to do. Wear a T-shirt that is at least three sizes too large. A solid black or white t-shirt or anything with an urban looking design will work. Add a baseball cap, preferably a solid color or solid black cap. Turn it either sideways or backwards. A white do-rag under the cap works well for these Halloween costumes. An easy substitute for the do-rag is a t-shirt sleeve, worn hemmed end down, under the cap. (I've seen a rap musician pictured doing this.) Add any type of "bling," to the costume, such as fake jewelry or even a shiny object hanging from a string.

To take this a step further, select your favorite musician and customize the Halloween costume to reflect that musician. Then, instead of saying you are dressing up as a rock singer, you can say you are dressing up as Bon Jovi or as Tommy Lee. These costume ideas aren't just for the guys either. There is no rule saying a girl cannot dress up as a male musician. Have a fun Halloween!
