Find Out Where the Fun is on Halloween

Ann Marie Pugh
Halloween is fast approaching and if you're like me, you want to show your kids a good and fun time, but keep them safe and save some money. I've compiled a list of things to do this 2006 Halloween season, and while many are free, there are a few that have minimal charges. Take a moment to see if any of the following activities will fit into your Halloween schedule.

Crown Center
Enjoy the Crown Center Pumpkin Patch! Admission is free for this event at Crown Center Square where there will be around 30,000 pounds of pumpkins on October 21. The day of pumpkin fun will benefit Children's TLC Easter Seals. There will be more than five hours of live entertainment. Tickets are fifty cents each and will be available for the festivities of games, rides, pumpkins and more! A pumpkin will cost six tickets.

Independence Center
Halloween Spooktacular on October 31 at Independence Center is helping parents by allowing children to trick-or-treat inside the mall from 6 pm-8pm on Halloween night. Many of the stores will be handing out candy or other fun items for the trick-or-treaters. For those children that are a member of the Simon Kidget Club, there will be a Halloween costume contest from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the wing by Dillard's. Joining the Simon Kidget Club can be examined by parents online and the cost is an annual membership fee of $5 per child.

The Legends at Village West
If you live on the Kansas side of Kansas City and would like to enjoy safe trick-or-treating also, The Legends at Village West is the place to go! Free for all trick-or-treaters, the event will last from 5-7 pm on Halloween evening. Look for pumpkins in the windows of retailers that are participating. Village West is located near the intersection of I-70 and I-435 in Kansas.

Haunted Community Center
Looking for some Halloween fun during the Hallo-Weekend? On Saturday, Oct. 28, Westport Roanoke Community Center is inviting all parents to bring your children for free Halloween fun. There will be goody bags, games, and even a haunted maze. If your interested and would like more information, the number at the community center is 816-784-5200.

Community Center Halloween Parties
At the Gregg/Klice Community Center, located at 1600 John "Buck" O'Neil Way, there will be a Halloween party on Halloween from 3-6 pm. This is a free event.

For those that live further south, the Hillcrest Community Center at 10401 Hillcrest Rd will be hosting a Halloween party on October 31 also and it will begin at 3:30 and end at 5 pm. Children 3-5 years old will play games and sing songs. Costumes are encouraged for chances to win prizes. According to the information I have, the fee to partake in this activity is $6 per couple. The center can be reached directly for more information at 816-784-7000.

Also on the list of things to do Halloween day, is another party at Garrison Community Center located at 1124 E Fifth St. At this event there will be food, music, candy and more fun for your Halloween. To find out when the party begins, call the center at 816-784-1140.

With all the fun, safe, and free activities this Halloween, be sure to bring a camera to record all the goolish memories. Have a great time!
