Free Halloween Mask Sewing Patterns for Pumpkins

I would have never thought to have made masks for decorating my pumpkins for Halloween. When I saw these masks and what they were used for, I found the idea to be new, novel, and unique.

I know and have know several people in my life whom carved pumpkins as part of their Halloween yard decor. Some of these people would place them along their sidewalks, while others sat them along the edge of their front porches or back decks depending on where they were handing out treats. You probably know people likes this or are a pumpkin carver yourself for Halloween.

Along came the painted pumpkins. For those who don't like to carve pumpkins, they prefer to paint them. These types of pumpkins can be cute, whimsical, and scary like their carved counterparts.

Now some people like to dress up their carved pumpkins in sewn masks. This may sound strange or even a fire hazard to those who like their carved pumpkins, but there are ways to make sure your pumpkins don't become a fire hazard for Halloween.

Tips for keeping your masked carved pumpkins from becoming a fire hazard.

Use flame retardant fabrics. If you can't find flame retardant fabric in stores, look for used costumes that have flame retardant material or fabric listed on the label. Used kids costumes can be found at yard sales or thrift stores for next to nothing.

Don't use a plastic mask. Plastic masks are the fastest way to start a fire inadvertently. They can melt or catch fire through the carved holes in the pumpkins. If kicked over by accident by trick or treaters, the candle could catch the mask on fire if it comes in contact with it.

Use battery lit candles. Using a battery lit candle will be the safest way of all to illuminate your pumpkin when using a mask as part of its decor. The mask will have less chance of catching fire in the event of it being knocked over or high winds if a storm brews up on Halloween night.
