The free home school curriculum available on Netflix is a great way to break up the boring subjects or add pizzazz and renewed interest to other subjects. Netflix has a large variety of National Geographic, PBS, and independent documentaries. Here are some of my family's favorite documentaries in the Netflix library.
Biographies of the US Presidents
Doesn't matter which president, my son loves studying US History through the lives of the presidents. Don't have time to watch a lengthy documentary on each individual president? Then just watch The Presidents this three disc series covers all the presidents of the United States. The focus is more on the personalities of each president rather than the same old tired approach to history. I don't mormally enjoy history documentaries, but I found The Presidents to be interesting and informative.
Learn Biology
Want to reinforce a whole semesters worth of biology? Learn Biology is a 128 minute free home school curriculum biology lesson. The DVD covers a full textbook of biology topics from cell structure to mitosis.
Understanding Science Series
Understanding Science is a series of six DVDs for anyone teaching elementary level science. The six free home school curriculum lessons are Scientific Problem Solving, Matter, Energy, Ecosystems, Classification of Living Things, and Weather Systems. The lessons are approximately twenty minutes each and would even make a great review for older students.
Basic Math Series
Fractions, deviants, percent, problem-solving, who remembers how to do have of the stuff we learned in math class? If you have forgotten or are just struggling to explain it so that your student understands the Basic Math will help. Through a series of twenty seven free home school curriculum lessons you can learn everything from addition and subtraction in lesson 1 to measurements in lesson 27.
Schoolhouse Rock
I can still remember the lessons I learned from Schoolhouse Rock. Now your students can enjoy and learn from all forty six episodes of Schoolhouse Rock. I know the videos are geared towards early elementary but I recommend Schoolhouse Rock for students of all ages. The catchy tunes will never leave your head and will be welcome memories when you need to remember the function of that conjunction. Sing it with me, "Conjunction Junction what's your function..."
