Free, Homemade Slipper Patterns

Karen Barnes
These free, homemade slipper patterns are easy to make. Many of the slipper patterns are made from felt or fleece.

Making the free, homemade slipper patterns can help cut your heating costs. Making homemade slippers can be a cheap way to keep your feet warm. By keeping your feet warm, you will be able to keep your thermostat down and lowering your monthly heating bill.

Not only will you keep your heating bills down, you can save money on purchasing slippers that are already made. You may be able to make two or three pairs of felt slippers to the price of one pair of manufactured slippers.

Being able to save money in todays economic crunch will help you make it through the rough times ahead. Even if you are able to save just a few dollars a month on your heating bills each month, you will have those few dollars to buy groceries, pay on another bill or put away for another day when you need it.

The group at http://sewing.about.com/od/freeprojects/tp/slippersewingpatterns.htm has seven different slipper patterns. Some are for costumes, and the rest are to wear around the house.

While making your own homemade slippers from these free patterns can save you money on your heating bills, they can also give you something to due during those days you are unable to get out of the house due to the in-climate weather.

Make a pair of homemade slippers and put them in your car for when you are traveling. This way when and if you go off the road due to snow, ice or rain, you will have an extra pair of shoes if needed. Also, if you are going on a trip and forget your regular house shoes, you will have a pair of homemade slippers in your car to use. This way you won't have to spend your vacation money on a pair of slippers to wear around your motel room while you are relaxing.

The knitted sweater patterns in "How Knitted Sweaters and Jackets Can Help Save on Heating Bills" can help in your quest to save money. To give you another example of how sweaters and slippers can help save money on your heating bills, our gas bill for our home was over $220 for December as opposed to the $280 for the same period last year.

You may think $220 is still high, I do agree it is, but considering the $60 difference in the two years, it will cover our water bill for the same month. This may not make you reconsider making your own homemade slippers or sweaters, but for some that difference in a heating bill will make them consider making their own warm clothing.

Thanks for the slipper patterns. I think I'm going to try this. Right now, I use some homemade slippers that I made out of two old shirts. They're funny looking guys, but they do the trick. If you would like to see them you can go to http://www.harvestall.info/homemade-shirt-slippers
