Free Ice Cream Cone Cozies Tutorial

A Fun and Easy Summer Sewing Project

Karen Barnes
There are tips for other uses for the ice cream cone cozies listed below. You will find tips for buying the materials needed for this fun summer sewing craft project too.

What else can be done with the ice cream cone cozies tutorial?

By skipping steps six and seven of the tutorial, you can do the following craft projects.

Coasters. You can make colorful absorbant coasters for your furniture. You can also take them on picnics and camping trips. When using them outdoors as a coaster, you can keep the dirt off the bottom of your drinks while sitting around the campfire or fishing if your lawn chair does not have a cup holder.

Kids washcloths. The double sided washcloths can be a fun project for them and yourself. Then can pick out the colors for their washcloths and you can sew them together. You can embroidery their names on their own cloths.

Mini placemats. The cozies can be used for a mini placemat for cereals, bowls of ice creams, semi-hot dishes held in your hands while eating.

Stick shift cover. If you leave your car parked outside, you could leave one end of the cozy open and slide it over the knob of your car's stick shift. I have a window blind for my car, but depending on the direction I have to park can leave my car's gear shift exposed to the sun. This can leave the stick shift exposed to the sun and making it rather hot to handle. By covering it while sitting in the sun, your gear or stick shift between the seats will be more manageable to handle until your car cools off. NOTE: Just be sure to remove it before putting it into gear and driving a way.

Where to find the items for this sewing project?

Wal-Mart, Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and Joann's Fabrics. These stores sell either fabric squares or bolts of fabrics. Most Wal-Mart stores have discontinued carrying bolts of fabrics, but from time to time they get in a few bolts of fabrics or bundled squares of fabrics for crafts. You can also find embroidery floss at any of these stores.

Wal-Mart, Target, and dollar type stores. To find new wash cloths to use for these cozies, you can buy them at these types of stores over buying terry cloth at any of the fabric stores. These are often cheaper than this type of fabric. You can also find them in assorted colored bundles. You could also buy them individually if you wanted a heavier wash cloth. Some of the dollar type stores will carry embroidery floss, but not all will carry craft items.

Thrift stores. Thrift stores often have fabric scraps for sale. They also have towels for sale that could be used for this craft project. You would cut the towels down per the instructions on the tutorial for the ice cream cozies. While at your thrift store shopping, check to see if they have jars or tins of buttons and other embellishments used in crafting. There have been times I have found bags of a mixture of ribbons, embroidery threads, buttons, and other items for next to nothing compare to retail stores. You may be as surprised as I have been as what you may find extra in these bags when you get home.

At home. For those of you who have not discarded torn or worn clothing or towels, you can use the parts of these items that have not been excessively worn. When it comes to the clothes, take the buttons off of them as well. This way you can use them as an embellishment. Most of us have a CD case from our favorite musician or band laying around. This is one of the items used for creating the template for the cozies.

The ice cream cone cozies tutorial is designed for sugar ice cream cones. It is a fun and easy sewing project to help with keeping the drips of ice cream off your hands during hot summer days. They are washable and reusable.
