Free Internet Chat Rooms Are Here to Stay

Technology knows no bounds today. And with the rise of technology, there is a growing dependence on computers. Well, one can't always work... so for, perhaps, a stress-relieving factor; enter the free Internet chat rooms. Essentially a means of communication, free internet chat rooms have become an integral part in the lives of many computer users, particularly teenagers and the general youth. It may be controversial, but it would be a lie to say that, at some point of our lives, we have not visited the free Internet chat rooms.

Although, in recent times, free Internet chat rooms have played second fiddle to the immensely popular instant messengers, they still do have a charm of their own. Free Internet chat rooms essentially work by sending text messages instantly to other people in the chat room, irrespective of the locations of the parties concerned. Locations may range from different rooms of the same house, to different continents- free internet chat rooms have, arguably, first proven that the world is, indeed, a small place. Due to the often-lackluster appearance, 'avatars' or screen icons have been introduced to most free Internet chat rooms, giving the user a graphical way of showing his unique personality.

Primarily, information in the form of text messages are exchanged on free internet chat rooms, but after suffering an attack with the recent popularity of instant messenger services, free internet chat rooms have allowed web-cam based services, as well as photo uploading allowances. This enables users on free Internet chat rooms to actually see whom they are conversing with (especially, with the use of web cams). As we all expect, users using free internet chat room services rarely give out their own information and often have parallel identities, where names, age and sex provided are fake. One never knows who is on the other side of the conversation.

As independent as these free Internet chat rooms are, they do have rules. Firstly, users are prohibited from using foul and provocative language, and the graphical use of lewd gestures. Free Internet chat rooms also prohibit the posting of external offensive websites, which may have racial or pornographic content. Filling the screen with repetitive test known as 'flooding' or 'spamming' may result in the offending user to be banned from accessing the chat room. Then again, moderating has not always been top notch in free Internet chat rooms, and comments made, intentionally or otherwise, aren't usually spotted.

Free Internet chat rooms should be accessed only after a certain age. These if used by children could yield dire consequences, simply because of the child's immaturity in understanding the functioning of free Internet chat rooms and the dangerous people who may use them. Parents are advised to strictly monitor their children using the Internet, and free Internet chat rooms, for safety purposes should be blocked altogether. And, generally, users using free Internet chat rooms should refrain from divulging personal information to people they know (or DO NOT KNOW) for a short span of time. These details include home or cell phone numbers, residential addresses etc.
