The series starts on Sept. 21 and runs until Nov. 23, 2010. The following workshops are on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. in Room 106 of the Humanities Building. Admission is free and open to the public.
Amir ElSaffar, Sept. 21
The acclaimed Iraqi-American composer, vocalist, trumpeter and santour player will conduct a workshop on Arabic music. ElSaffar fuses the style of his cultural background with contemporary music.
Helen Sung, Oct. 19
Pianist and composer Helen Sung will lead a class on jazz improvisation. Sung is a winner of the Kennedy Center's Mary Lou Williams Piano Competition. She is best known for her work in jazz, classical and pop music.
Bobby Sanabria, Nov. 2
Learn about Afro Cuban music from Grammy nominee Bobby Sanabria. This jazz drummer is also a composer, arranger and professor.
Justin Binek, Nov. 23
Jazz vocalist Justin Binek will conduct a workshop on vocal jazz. He is currently the head of Vocal Jazz Studies at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
