Free Money for Your Child's Health

Sandra Bacon
Getting free money for your child's health can be a blessing, because having a sick child is one of the worst things that can happen in your life.

The second worst thing is not having the money to pay the expensive medical bills. But help is out there, you just need to know where to look. The agencies or organizations that provide this free money isn't going to come to you however, you have to go to them.

Which means, you are going to have to take some time and do a little research to find out who these agencies and organizations are.

Local - Federal And State Agencies

Governmental agencies aren't going to give money directly to you. Instead they award grants to local non-profit organizations or agencies.

You can check with your local Aide to Dependent Children Agency, and see if they can tell you who these non-profit organizations are.

Corporations

Some corporations have programs in place to help the employees and their families. To find out if your company has this, check with your benefits coordinator or HR.

Associations or Agencies That Educate The Public

Associations that are trying to fight certain diseases probably won't give you money, but some will donate free medication, transportation and counseling. These are very good donations to take advantage of.

Private Foundations

Funds from private foundations may be easier to obtain, but you will still have to contact them, qualify for their grant, and fill out their application.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WHEN APPLYING FOR MONEY OR GRANTS

Research - You need to do your research. Either on line, at the library or you can check your local bookstore, and see if they have any guides to foundations, governmental agencies or associations that give grants.

Qualifying - Check the list of qualifications. They may be listed according to illness, geography, race and sex. Make a list of only those organizations that your child qualifies for.

Contact - Do not call these organizations unless it states it in the qualification guidelines. Otherwise, send them a letter requested more information and an application.

They usually tell you how long it will take for the to respond, if they don't, be prepared to wait any where from 3 to 10 weeks.

Application - Fill out the application to the best of your knowledge, but the more information you give them, the better your child's chances are of getting a grant.

When you fill out this application, why not save it and use it as a sample for the other applications.

Read The Guidelines - Read very carefully and follow the guidelines. If you don't, there is a possibility your application could be turned down. So if the guidelines states to type in the information on the application, then please do so.

You will also have to write a letter explaining why you need the money. Your child's doctor will also have to submit a medical statement that should be give to you, not the organization. Keep all the information you need to give the organization together with the application.

If asked, you may also need to provide a copy of your tax return, but this doesn't mean that if you have a high income, you will be turned down. Most organizations look at the need, not how much money you make. The guideline should let you know if a certain income bracket is necessary.

It won't be easy getting this money, but it's not impossible either. If you choose to do this, then the keywords are patience and persistence.

Medical treatment is very expensive, and if you find an opportunity to receive free money for your child's health, then take it. Getting this help will relieve the financial burden of having to pay those bills on your own.
