Free Mother's Day Gifts

A Sentimental Gift is All a Mom Wants for Mother's Day

Kim Keason
Moms love sentimental gifts. The good news is that the best Mother's day gifts are practically free using items that you have around the house. The only thing that a great Mother's day gift takes is an effort on the part of her child.

Free Mother's Day Gift: a Card

All you need for this Mother's day gift is construction paper, scissors, crayons or markers, and a glue stick. Design a card for your mom from your heart. On the inside write how you feel or create a poem for Mother's day.

As moms, we love your homemade cards. It shows that you took the time and effort to make us something and that means more than any store bought item. I have saved every card my kids have ever made for me in a treasure box on my dresser.

Free Mother's Day Gift: Treasure Box

You can make your mom a treasure box to keep all the sentimental cards and projects that you give her. All you need to create this box is a box at least the size of shoe box. You can decorate the box with construction paper, stickers, crayons, markers, and any other small items you have around the house.

You can also print out some family pictures and glue them to the box. Did you take a recent vacation to the beach and have a few seashells lying around? You might have a couple of beads from a broken necklace or some sequins from a past project. Even little plastic army men would be a great decoration for a treasure box.

Free Mother's Day Gift: Coupon Book

I know a coupon book sounds boring, but trust me, your mom will love the fact that you are willing to think of her throughout the year.

You can do the coupon a couple of different ways. If you can design it on computer you can print up six coupons on a page, cut them out, punch a hole in one corner, and tie them with ribbon or a piece of string. You can do the same with coupons that are drawn by hand. You can use this idea every year and just refill her coupon book.

Some ideas to include in coupon book are: letting mom take a bath without disruptions (you can promise to go to dad during that time), setting the dinner table for a week, or doing homework without complaining. You can include any chore that you do not normally have to do.

Free Mother's Day Gift: Handprint

I have already mentioned that moms are sentimental. We love to watch you grow and change. One way for your mom to remember how much you have grown is to give her a handprint.

You can trace your hands on construction paper and color it. If you have washable paint and some old fabric, you can coat your hand and put the image on the fabric. You may have to reinforce the edges of the fabric with something straight, like popsicle sticks or pipe cleaners in order for the handprint to come out. Attach a string to the top and she can hang your handprint. Write the date on the picture so she will never forget which year she received this Mother's day gift.

Moms are sappy. We love to save the things that you make to remember the times when you were smaller than you are now. Give your mom the best gift for Mother's day, your heart.

Yep. Moms are sappy! I wish my 7-yr-old had an email account so I could forward this link to him. Haha! That bath without any interruptions sounds wonderful. :)
