Residents of Athens or Sayre, Pennsylvania as well as residents of Waverly New York may be looking for fun local activities which are free. There communities offer free entertainment consisting of local music talent.

One of my all time favorite things to do is to listen to live music. I am lucky to live in a valley of small towns which offer free concerts during the summer. Read on and I'll share when and where these concerts are, come out and support local talent.

These free concerts range from rock, pop, country and polka music. All of these events are sponsored by the communities in which they are held. If you are on the border of New York and Pennsylvania

In the Muldoon Park in Waverly, New York fans can gather around the gazebo and listen to a live band every Tuesday evening. Bring your lawn chairs or spread a blanket n the huge park lawn and enjoy the concert.

In Sayre, Pennsylvania in Sayre Park across from the Robert Packer Hospital citizens can bring lawn chairs or a blanket. This free concert event happens every Wednesday evening during the summer.

Page Manor Athens Thursday nights from 7 pm to 9 pm visitors can enjoy a free concert inside out of the heat. The page Manor Band plays a wide variety of music from the sixties, seventies and eighties. The kitchen staff has some refreshments available.

In downtown Athens at the borough park, by D&R Ice Cream shop people can catch good music every
Thursday evening during the summer. The band plays on the gazebo and there is plenty of room around to sit in chairs provided by the town and enjoy the music. There is also a good sized grassy area where on may place a blanket or lawn chairs.

The Athens Township Fire Company will begin hosting free concerts on Friday evenings in the middle of June 2011. Volunteer Firefighters will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers to the public during the event for a nominal fee. There is plenty of parking and the event will be held outside near the big pavilion out back. Bring lawn chairs or sit a one of the nine new picnic tables.

All concerts are held in the evening hours on their respective days during the summer unless of course the valley is experiencing inclement weather. For more information please contact Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce.
