These week five NFL game picks are suitable for an office football pool. I do straight NFL won/loss game predictions with no point spread. You can find other 2010 NFL game predictions from Associatedcontent.com writers with this link.
Chicago at Carolina
The Bears have a pathetic offensive line and a shell shocked Jay Cutler coming off a concussion, if he plays. Cutler looked skittish before he was even injured in a loss to the Giants. Carolina almost beat a banged up Saints team in New Orleans but their best player, Steve Smith was hurt.
The big thing people are talking about in Charlotte is the return of Julius Peppers. Peppers was a North Carolina native with huge talent and no desire to play. Peppers would take weeks off in a season and do nothing. He seems to be happy and playing harder in Chicago. Peppers will kill the offensive line in Carolina, Chicago wins 17 to 6.
Atlanta at Cleveland
The Browns have been playing a little better each week and got their first win last week against the Bengals. Atlanta is just a very solid team at most positions and I don't see them playing flat this week. My week five office football pick is the Falcons win 24 to 17.
New York Giants at Houston
The Giants feasted on a bad Bears line last week but this is not a good football team right now. Houston has found a running game with Adrian Foster leading the NFL in rushing. If Andre Johnson is healthy then the Texans are a playoff team or better. Houston wins at home 24 to 14.
Green Bay at Washington
The Packers have a great passing game and good defense but must trade for a running back to be a great team. The Redskins are a bad team with a great quarterback but McNabb can't beat the Packers by himself. Green Bay wins 27 to 21.
Jacksonville at Buffalo
The Jaguars are coming off a huge emotional high by knocking off the Colts. Buffalo may be the worst team in football but I think this is a trap game for a less than average Jaguars team. My week five NFL upset pick is the Bills beat the Jaguars 17 to 14.
San Diego at Oakland
The Chargers are the most overrated team in the NFL. Oakland just sucks but there is some talent there. I am tempted to take the Raiders but can't make myself do it. My free week five NFL prediction is San Diego 27 Oakland 14.
Philadelphia at San Francisco
Michael Vick was injured against the Redskins and Kevin Kolb played decently but not great in a relief effort. The 49ers almost pulled off an upset of Atlanta but I think Singletary has lost this team. Despite the travel Philly wins 21 to 10 no matter who plays at quarterback for them.
Kansas City at Indianapolis
The Chiefs are 3-0 due to special teams, decent defense and a good running game. The Colts have already lost two games this season mostly due to a bad defense. Indy won't lose two in a row and beats KC, 28 to 10.
Denver at Baltimore
Kyle Orton is the best quarterback in the NFL that nobody ever talks about. The Ravens are coming off a very physical win over the Steelers. I smell an upset as Denver knocks off the beat up Ravens 21 to 17.
St. Louis at Detroit
The Rams have won two in a row for the first time in years and rookie Sam Bradford is the real deal at quarterback. Detroit has a decent offense even with backup quarterback Shaun Hill but their defense sucks. I do think Detroit plays well enough at home this week to get their first win. Lions beat the Rams 24 to 21.
Tampa Bay at Cincinnati
Carson Palmer has lost it and as he goes so do the Bengals. Tampa has vastly improved over last year. I think the Bengals go back to basics and run the ball often and well to beat the Bucs 21 to 14.
New Orleans at Arizona
The Saints are very banged up on offense and this has led to low scoring games where the defense can't be as risk taking. Arizona just sucks from top to bottom and may not win another game this season. Saints win 24 to 10.
Tennessee at Dallas
The former Houston Oilers return to Texas to take on America's team. The Titans have a dirty defense, great running game and less than average passing game. Dallas is the most talented but most underachieving team in the NFL. Look for Dallas to win 27 to 21.
Week five Monday Night Prediction
Minnesota at the New York Jets
Brett Favre gets to play another former team of his when he takes on the Jets. Mark Sanchez is going to be the key to this game as the Jets knock off the Vikings 20 to 14.
