Free Online Marketing

Marketing your items online can be a daunting and frustrating task. Everyone who sells anything online needs to establish a plan and adapt the plan whenever possible. Here are a few tips I've picked up over 5 years of selling online.

Email groups. Do not go out and send unsolicited emails to just any email group. This is considered spam and will give you a bad reputation fast. Instead, find email groups that allow advertising and are targeted to your potential market. It's a great way to reach your customers and stir up interest in what you have for sale.

Specialized search engines. There are literally thousands of search engines scattered across the Internet, many you can submit to for no cost. Submit to all of the general and popular search engines first. Then find the engines that are specific to what you have to offer. There are search engines for everything from family friendly sites to crafts, if you look around you can find them.

Signatures. Always put a one sentence, less than 20 words description and link in all of your signatures. Whether it is in your emails or on a forum somewhere, it's a fabulous way to advertise. When you're a forum member, people get to know you and are more likely to click on your links and explore.

Free classified ads. These have to be the easiest free way to advertise. Most sites require you to renew the ad every 7-30 days. And again, there's thousands to choose from but they're a great free way to get traffic and gain interest.

Find what works. In the world of online marketing, it's all a matter of finding out what works for you and gets you to your potential customers. There are a lot of successful sellers out there that have never paid for any advertising. It's all a matter of finding what works best for you and putting in the work to reach you customers.

Tracking. In order to track marketing efforts, you can encourage people to use codes. It entails keeping track of what code goes with which marketing campaign. But in the end, it enables you to get a better idea of what ads are successful.

Once you figure out what marketing technique works for you, it will become second nature. And as you market more and more, it won't seem like such a chore and will become fun. You'll look forward to renewing your classified ads and describing your newest item. Just remember, never give up. It can take months of constantly getting your name out there before you see any real results.
