This free online version of Scrambler is offered by riddler.com and unlike many game sites, Riddler does NOT require that you download anything in order to play the game. You can play Scrambler online for free without giving out any personal 'registration' information, and without installing any files onto your hard drive. The free online Scrambler game at Riddler uses a five by five game grid. It's big enough to be challenging but not so large as to be overwhelming.

The rules to the free online Scrambler game are simple. Just unscramble a picture as fast as you can by moving the mixed up squares back to their proper positions.

First, you will have an opportunity to look at the properly constructed picture. Some of them are photographs and some of them are computer generated animations. Above the Scrambler game board are two buttons, one says "Start Game" and the other says "High Scores".

When you think you've looked at the picture long enough to remember it, click on "Start Game". The clock, (which is between the two buttons) will stars counting up. It will stop automatically after five minutes of play time has elapsed. If you haven't finished unscrambling the picture by then, you've lost that round of Scrambler.

Each time you click on one square and drag it to another square's position, those two pieces of the Scrambler puzzle will swap positions in the game grid. Keep swapping pieces until the the original Scrambler picture is restored. You should try to go as fast as you can, because faster times score higher points.

If you don't finish within the five minute limit, the Scrambler picture goes back to the completed state for you to stare at, and then you can try again. (The "Start Game" button changes to " Play Again" at that point.) You can try that same puzzle again, or you can try a new Scrambler picture.

You don't HAVE to register at Riddler, but if you do choose to register, you will also be able to upload your very own pictures to use to play online Scrambler. They'll add your picture(s) to the games rotation of pictures, so that other people can play the free Scrambler game with your pictures too.

They'll also give you a unique URL to go directly to the picture you submitted, (instead of waiting for it to come up randomly in the game). You can give out that unique URL to your friends and family, so that they can play Scrambler online for free using the picture that you submitted. I noticed that quite a few of the pictures are of cute children. Wouldn't it be neat to send that to the out of town relatives?
