To Make a Fabric Oval Storage Basket Pattern You Will Need:

Fabric

Heavy Weight Fusible Interfacing

Thread

Sewing Machine

Tape Measure

To get started you need to break out some news print or large scrap paper to make your pattern out of for the oval storage basket. I like to use old brown paper bags for this as well.

Now, decide how large you want them to be. You need to determine the side of the oval first. A great size is an oval 1 foot wide and about 8 inches deep, but you can really make this as all or large as you want.

Now, take your tape measure and measure half ways around the outer edge of your oval. Stay on one short end or narrow end and measure to the other. Add 1 inch to this number.

On your paper you want to measure out a rectangle that is this wide and as tall as you want your finished product to be.

Now, near the top, about 2 inches down form the top and centerpiece in the rectangle you want to draw a smaller oval. This will be cut out and made the handle.

Now, make your ruler, draw a line straight across the top of the rectangle. You want this lien to just cut through the bottom 1/3 of the oval handle cut out.

Now, in the middle, in the area above the handle and right in the middle, make a vertical line.

Cut all three parts of this rectangle out now. You will end up with 2 top pieces, one bottom piece, as well as your oval for the bottom of the oval storage basket pattern.

Cut out each piece of the pattern. You will need one piece each in an exterior fabric, liner fabric, and heavyweight fusible interfacing.

Iron the fusible interfacing to the back of the exterior fabric for the oval storage baskets.

Now, on to sewing together you free oval fabric storage basket pattern. You want to take the two handles (the top parts of the rectangle you cut out, and sew them together.

Take one set of the handles and sew the vertical line together by laying one left handle Alf face up on the table. Lay the right side face down on top. Sew the vertical in using one half inch seam allowance. Repeat on the back side of the basket's exterior fabric.

Now, repeat this step on the 2 sets of handles made from liner fabric.

Take one exterior handle and lay it face up on your tale. Top it off with a matching liner fabric handle pattern side down. Sew the top straight line and sew the handle side. Leave the side that will attach to the bottom of the oval basket open as well as the side vertical cuts.

Repeat on the back handle.

Take one handle and lay it flat on the table face side up. Lay the other pattern side down. Sew the two side seams to create one piece.

Now, to sew the basket together you first want to take your two bottom exterior fabric panels. Lay on efface up and top off with the back piece face down. Sew the sides together.

Pin the bottom oval in place. with the wrong side out. Sew together, again using a 1/2 inch seam allowance for all seams.

Now, repeat this same process on the liner fabric for the basket, but leave a small 6 inch opening on the bottom oval when you sew it into place.

Turn the exterior bottom of the oval storage basket inside out.

Turn the handles right side in and pin onto he top edge of the oval basket. It should be upside down, with the liner fabric out.

Now, slip on the liner fabric bottom of ht basket with the liner face right side in.

In all three layers together lining up the seam. Sew the seam as close as possible, about ΒΌ inch seam allowance.

Turn inside out and se the opening in the liner shut! Your fabric oval basket pattern is finished.
