To Make You Own Free Weekend Travel Bag Pattern You Will Need:

1 Yard of Exterior Fabric

1 Yard of liner fabric

22 inch zipper

Sewing Machine

Tape Measure

Scissors

To get started you need to cut out 2 pieces of exterior fabric and two interior pieces to 24 inches wide and 20 inches tall. Try to use canvas or twill for both the liner and exterior to really get a sturdy bag. You can use any heavy weight fabric.

Now, you will also need 2 interior and 2 exterior pieces that are 24 inches wide and 5 inches tall. These will be referred to as the top panels from this point on.

Finally the handles can be made from the same exterior fabric to your can buy some pre made webbing or handles. If you are cutting gate out, then you will need 2 pieces of the exterior fabric that ar each 5 inches wide and 24 inches long.

Finally, you need one 22 inch zipper. It can be longer and trimmed as needed.

Now, lay one exterior piece face up on the table. Take one of the exterior top panels and lay if face down on the top of the exterior piece. Pine the top edges together and sew with a ½ inch seam allowance. Repeat on the other exterior pieces.

Lay one side face up on the table and top off with the other face down. Sew the sides of the overnight bag pattern and the bottom with a ½ inch seam allowance.

Now, lay out the interior pieces of the overnight bag pattern. You will want one big piece face up. Lay the zipper face up on the top edge. Top off with an interior top panel face town. Sew the three together half way from the edge to the zipper together. Repeat on the other side.

Now, lay this sandwich of fabric so that the two bottom panels of the interior fabric are front sides together and the top panels are as well. Sew the sides and bottom with a ½ inch seam allowance. You will need to leave a 10 inch opening in the seam on the bottom.

Now, turn the exterior piece inside out. At this point you can make your handles. You want to simply make the traditional handle from fabric, which is folding each strip in half length wise. Now, fold the two halves in again. Iron flat.

Sew the left and right sides down with a ¼ inch seam allowance.

Now, pin the handles onto each side of the exterior sides of the overnight bag pattern. The will need to be pinned down, not up.

Slip the interior portion of the bag up over the exterior bag avoiding the handles.

Finally, pin the top edges together and sew with a ½ inch seam allowance. You can also sew th handles of the overnight bag in a few times, just run you needle back and forth over the handles.

Turned the whole bag inside out. Sew the liner of the overnight bag pattern shut and you are finished.

For added stability on the overnight bag pattern you can sew the top edges of the whole bag with a fun stitch.
