Free Pattern: Simple 7" Granny Square to Crochet

A Slightly Different Granny Square Pattern

Marie Anne St. Jean
Granny squares can be joined to make many different things - afghans and baby blankets, shawls and wraps, even scarves and purses. This easy pattern is similar to the traditional granny square except that there is one round of single crochet and another of double crochet instead of clusters throughout. There are no fancy stitches involved so it should be easily mastered by even a beginner to crochet.

The photo above shows several squares attached with the flat braid join method. Click #2 and #3 to see more views of this same purple and lavender 7" granny square pattern. Photos of other color combinations may be found here.

Cheryl B, I used the regular flat braid join method, but I think I did a row of sc border in the same color that I used for the join, which makes it look wider.

Could you tell me how you joined the squares? Your joining looks thicker than the normal flat braid. I'm going to make this - it looks like fun.
