Dress Up Your Pet for Halloween

Janet Trieschman
It seems like if enough time passes, everything goes to the dogs. Well, Halloween seems to be no different. It too has gone to the dogs and cats. Now you can dress up your animal in his or her own costume for Halloween. Maybe you already dress your pet. Maybe this is a new concept for you. Either way, if you want to get your pet to partake in the Halloween celebrations, you will need a few ideas to get you started. There are many patterns available for pet costumes and clothing. There are even more costumes available ready made these days. But, if you want to create your own, you might be interested in what patterns are available for free. These free patterns are hard to locate and come few and far between. Collected below are the patterns I have found that are free to use. Maybe something here will get your creative juices flowing.

They are listed in no particular order.

Free Pet Projects
Free Pet Projects offers from the cute to the funny in free patterns for pet costumes. Cats aren't left out either. You can make your cat into a princess and your dog into a hot dog. They also have a simple pattern for party hats if you are going to throw your pet a birthday party for all their friends. This site offers so much for your pet; it goes above and beyond Halloween costumes. It is definitely worth book marking as a reference.

Free Needle
There are more practical projects at this site than costumes, but well worth a mention. Maybe something here will get you going.

Creative Designworks
A cute ruffled collar is explained that could be transformed into a clown outfit or a Victorian collar. How about a court jester? This site specializes in hardware for making collars for pets.

Knitting Pattern Central
There is much more here than costumes. But many of these patterns will work for a costume. From a kitty eye patch to a lacey evening dog dress. Obviously for more than just dogs, there are patterns for cats too! All patterns are for knitting projects.

Circle of Crafters
Actually, this is not a costume but a dress for dogs, it is a resizable pattern. I bet you could turn this pattern into a costume. How about a princess? The first lady? An evening gown - oh with cute white gloves and a tiara. I bet with a little transformation you could turn this into a poodle skirt for you poodle!
