Four Free Parks and Recreation Centers Found in Phoenix, Arizona

Phoenix is the top tourist destination in the state of Arizona. It is known for its beautiful mountain and desert backdrop, its heat and its urban attractions. However, this city also has an amazing collection of city and state parks and recreation areas that you will not want to miss. A few of the free parks and recreation areas that you can use while visiting the City of Phoenix include the Camelback Mountain-Echo Canyon Recreation Area, the Encanto Park and Recreation Area, the Papago Park and the South Mountain Park.

Camelback Mountain-Echo Canyon Recreation Area

One of the best local parks/recreation areas for climbers and hikers is the Camelback Mountain-Echo Canyon Recreation Area. One of its entrances can be found on E. McDonald Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona. Here you will find intermediate and advanced climbing and hiking opportunities, the Desert Wildlife and Phoenix Mountain Preserve, the Trails and Desert Preserve, the North Mountain Visitor Center and the South Mountain Environmental and Education Center. Keep in mind that some of the interior attractions may have fees tied to them.

Encanto Park and Recreation Area

One of the most popular recreation areas in Phoenix is the Encanto Park and Recreation Area. It is located at 2605 N. 15th Avenue. It is open from 5:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. seven days a week. There are lots of recreational opportunities inside the park for playing ball, soccer, jogging, swimming, golfing and picnicking. You can rent the large picnic areas and the recreation centers for a fee. Also inside this park is the Enchanted Island Amusement Park. This amusement park has a fee and it is for kids between 2 and 10 years of age. Keep in mind that many of the activities inside the park have a small fee attached to them.

Papago Park

Papago Park is found at 625 N. Galvin Parkway. It offers 70 acres of picnic and recreation areas. Some of the activities found within the park include archery ranges, an exer course, a fishing lagoon, a ranger station, an orienteering course and Hunt's Tomb. This is a great park to spend time in as it has so much to do.

South Mountain Park

phoenix. is one of the largest municipal parks in the country. If offers over 16,000 acres of fun and entertainment. Here you can hike on their 51 miles of primary trails, go horseback riding or go mountain biking. This park is open from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
