Free Picture Editing Using IrfanView

Kantus
IrfanView is a free picture editing program. If you need to add an effect to a picture that is outside the scope of Microsoft Paint, then IrfanView is a great free tool to use. For most of my picture editing needs, I have found IrfanView to be very effective. Here are 5 of the reasons I like IrfanView.

1. Quickly send picture in email.

Once you have finished making edits to your picture with this free picture editing tool, with the click of a button, you can send it via email. Sending your picture as an email using IrfanView requires an additional plug-in. This plug-in is also free and can be downloaded from the official IrfanView web site.

2. Easily see images as slideshow.

Once you have more than 1 picture open with IrfanView, you can view them as a slideshow. This feature of IrfanView comes in handy when you are working on editing multiple pictures and want to see how they look as they are by viewing them as a slideshow.

3. Many easy to use image operations.

There are many operations you can perform on a picture. I have been using IrfanView for a long time and am still learning new operations you can perform that I never knew about before.

This free picture editing software also supports many image formats. In addition to the standard .gif, .jpeg and other related formats, it also supports mp3 files so you can play music on it. You can scan and print pictures, and even play movies on IrfanView.

4. Add effects to the picture.

There are a lot of cool effects you can add to your pictures with IrfanView. For example, you can add a 3D button effect which will make your picture look like it is on a 3D button. You can add rain drops to you pictures so it looks like it has just finished raining on the picture. You can add a negative effect to the picture so that it will look like the picture is a negative from a camera film. These are just a few of the many effects you can add to a picture with IrfanView.

5. Resize/Resample while maintaining aspect ratio.

This is my favorite feature of this free picture editing tool. There have been occasions where I need to resize a picture to fit a certain width. What I normally did was just shrink the width and the height so it looks ok. Sometimes this worked to make the picture look ok, but oftentimes the picture looked distorted because the aspect ratio (ratio of the width to the height) ends up getting changed.

With IrfanView, it has a built in resize/resample of the picture. This has got to be my most used feature of this program. You can set the size of the picture to half, or double, or your own width/height and it will automatically adjust the dimensions so there is no distortion and the same aspect ratio is maintained.
