This poem (below) is one that came to me when given an assignment to write about a color. Since blue is my favorite, it was easy to come up with a poem about life that tied the color blue to all five senses.
Shades of Blue
Blue looks like the ocean
At morning's first light
Or the dark, dusky sky,
Tucked in for the night.
Blue smells like an iris
On warm, summer days
Or the sweet scent of clover
That's made into hay.
Blue tastes like a grape
That's tender and sweet
Or like juicy, tart berries
The birds love to eat.
Blues sounds like the tone
Of pansies all singing
Or tinkling bells
In heaven a'ringing.
Blue feels like true lovers
Ere soon to part,
Or the depths of a lonely
Wanderer's heart.

Post a CommentLangley: Thanks so much for stopping by. Like you, I enjoy rhyming poems, too. I love to memorize poems (mostly funny stuff, like Ogden Nash) and it's so much easier when they rhyme.
Glad you enjoyed it, Linda. And that's fun that your sister's name is Cindy Lynn! What are the odds? Maybe we're long lost twins? :)
I really love this. I love rhyming poems and this is so profound in it's simplicity. Fantastic!
I loved this! Have to let you know that I have a sister who's name is Cindy Lynn. Makes me smile every time I see you. :)
Thanks for stopping by, Julie. Yes, I'm so glad you liked that line ... it's one of my favorites, too. In the spring, you can almost hear the pansies singing. Well, if you close your eyes and listen hard enough, anyway! :)
