Free, Printable Addition Worksheets for 1st Grade

Keeping first grade students on top of their math skills can be a chore in itself. Kids in the first grade would rather play than work on their addition. Teachers are not the only ones responsible for our kids learning their math skills. As parents, we have to make sure our kids are learning at home as well as school. The teachers are giving them the start of their learning of addition.

Having kids who can do the basic math skills will help them as they further their education and obtaining a job. If a child can't do their basic math skills, they will find it hard to keep up with their studies and feel as if they are a failure. I don't like seeing kids feel like this.

Taking a few minutes to print out these addition worksheets can help your child stay on top of their addition math skills. Having kids take a few minutes each day with one addition worksheet at home will help them know that you care about their education; even if they fight you every step of the way. When they get older, they will be glad you took the time to have them sit down and practice their addition. They may not say it out loud, but they will be glad and thankful to you for doing so.

If my thoughts on kids and addition sound harsh, it may be because it is. I don't know how many times I have seen teenagers after being hired to work a cash register not be able to add two items together. I have seen the frustration in their faces and seeing how they have felt after the customer they have waited on left. This isn't a pretty sight at all.

Even as an adult, I have had moments of having problems adding larger numbers together in my head or even on paper. I think this is due to being dependent on calculators. I don't have a problem with calculators. When we start having issues adding numbers together without one this becomes a problem.
