Whether you're a parent, a teacher or a craft enthusiast, there are dozens of uses for free, printable alphabet stencils.

Alphabet Stencils for Kids

If your child is learning the alphabet or has yet to master reading, use free, printable alphabet stencils to make teaching tools such as an alphabet book, banner, border or worksheets. Cut out pictures of things that start with the each letter (or have your kids draw pictures of animals, flowers or super heroes for each letter), then put the pictures and an uppercase and lowercase letter into a trapper keeper or empty photo album for an alphabet book. Or paste the pictures and stencils to colored construction paper or card stock and create a border for their bedroom or your classroom.

Alphabet Stencils for Crafts

Use free, printable stencils to design clothing or tote bags. Print your letters, then trace them along a fabric swath. Cut out the fabric and glue or sew it onto a t-shirt or bag. Or use alphabet or number stencils to create a sign for your street address.

Printing Stencils in Color

If you intend to use the stencils as letters for a border or banner and want to print them in color, select a stencil from one of the sites below, then import into Paint. From there you can choose from dozens of colors to fill it in with. Save your new stencil, then print. This way, you can make each stencil a different color.

Or Make Your Own

Using Microsoft Word, select your favorite font. Blow each letter up to the size you want, then print. For smaller letters, cut them out of magazines.

Printing Your Alphabet Stencils

When printing your alphabet stencils consider printing them on card stock for a longer shelf life. Also, lower the ink quality to save on ink. When printing, select Properties, then adjust your ink quality (if your printer has the Quick Print option, selecting it will save you on ink without significantly reducing the quality). Have your kids help you cut out the printable stencils, this will increase their enthusiasm and improve their dexterity.
