Free Printable Homebrew Beer Labels: Where to Find Them

If you are like most home brewers, the most fun part of the experience is sharing your brews with your friends. To make your homemade beer as elegant and professional-looking as possible, how about printing your own beer labels?

You can buy many sticky-back paper templates from any office supply store, such as Staples or Office Depot. Avery makes many popular label templates but there are many other brands as well. Choose a label size that will wrap perfectly around the bottle and match up at the edges. Alternatively, you can buy a standard size template that will only cover part of the bottle.

Next, choose the labels that suit you best from these free printable designs. The best results will come from using a color laser printer, but many of these labels can be printed elegantly in black and white as well. Avoid using an ink jet printer as the ink will smudge with the condensation of the beer.

As an alternative to purchasing blank labels and using templates, you can go to any home brewing store and pick up pre-printed labels which already carry a design. These fit in your printer just like the blank ones and you can add personalized content of your own.

Here are some templates to get you started:

1. Anchor Labels

These gorgeous red, white, and blue labels say "Anchor Brew Premium Ale 12 oz." and have a nautical theme. These labels print six to a sheet and are wide enough to wrap around the entire bottle.

2. Print Stationary

Print Stationary has an assortment of printable food labels, some of which would work great for beer labels. Best of all, these are customizable labels. You can download the template, open it up in Word or MS Paint, and add in whatever information you would like about the beer or the brewer. These would work great for brews made for special occasions like weddings or birthdays.

3. Avery

Avery has a number of free label templates that can be used for wine, beer, or even preserves. They are customizable and fit perfectly onto the associated Avery blank labels. They can be opened in Microsoft Word and information added and saved right to the template. The above link is an example but there are many to choose from.

When it's time to remove the labels in preparation for the next batch of beer, allow the beer bottles to soak in warm water for an hour and they should come right off. If there is any residual adhesive, scrub with a kitchen scrubber under water.
