Free Printable School Work Sheets

Donna Kay
School work sheets are a great way to help children practice new skills at home. Maybe your child needs extra help with multiplication tables. Perhaps her science class is introducing the solar system. No matter the subject, printable school work sheets are invaluable tools for parents to enhance the learning process at home. This list of web sites has free printable work sheets in a wide variety of styles and grade levels.

There are also puzzles, craft activities, holiday printables and coloring pages for children of all ages. These are perfect for the little preschoolers still at home or for any age on a rainy day. Printable school worksheets can make learning fun. There seems to be something special about crisp new worksheet pages that entice children to try them. This is especially true if the worksheet offers a refreshing change from what they're accustomed to using at school. Grading those worksheets with bright colorful stickers will only increase their willingness to try a new task.

ABC Teach

This site has more than 5000 free printable work sheets for students, parents and teachers to put to good use. The home page is user friendly with clearly labeled categories. Under each category, you'll find several sub-categories which easily narrows the search for just the right work sheet. This site has a little bit of everything including work sheets for most school subjects, word search puzzles, printable flash cards, holiday coloring pages, book report forms and many more options.

ABC Teach also has a membership available for a fee. This increases the choice of printable worksheets to more than 15,000. The cost is $40.00 for individual membership per year, or $70.00 for two years. There are discounts for group memberships as well. The free worksheets are probably more than adequate for most needs, but for educators and students schooled at home, the membership might be worth the cost.

TLS Books

TLS Books has free printable worksheets for preschool through fifth grade and the worksheets are fantastic. The home page of this site specifies when the latest worksheets were added and the quantity added. Knowing the site is frequently updated with new information is a bonus. There is a discreet message on the home page to consider giving a yearly donation of $1.00 if visitors find the worksheets helpful.

There is a column on the left side of the home page with links by school grade. When you click on one of these links, many new links will appear for that particular grade in front and center columns. For example, click on the fifth grade link in the left column and a list is generated for fifth grade math worksheets, fifth grade science worksheets, fifth grade English worksheets, etc. Click on the links under each subject and you will see the worksheet in Adobe.

Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the home page and you will find many links for worksheets as well. These links are also actual worksheets and will take you directly to Adobe to print them. The top middle of the home page has several advertising links that appear to be for other similar web sites, but are not part of TLS Books.

Super Teacher Worksheets

This is a user-friendly site that is designed to help school teachers. The home page is loaded with links to free school worksheets. There are many options to choose from including grammar, math, telling time, writing skills and many types of helpful charts available to print. Fourth grade seems to be the highest grade level, at least for spelling worksheets. The grade level might go much higher, but with so many links on the home page, there just wasn't enough time to check them all out. I went straight to the worksheets needed for our student. I didn't delve deep enough to locate any science or social study links either. It looks as if the focus on this site is language and math.

Super Teacher Worksheets does have useful information geared toward teachers such as classroom tips and organizational skills, but it's also extremely useful for parents. Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the home page. There are plenty of links for fun activities as well. With every click of the mouse will come additional choices for free worksheets. There are definitely enough benefits to make this site worth the trip!

Education World

Education World is another great site for parents to get free printable worksheets. There is a column on the far left side of the page and under a heading titled Lesson Planning, you'll find a link called Printables Library. That aptly named link will indeed pull up a worksheet library in the center of the page. You'll see links such as "Animals A to Z," "Hunt the Fact Monster," "Make Your Own Worksheets," and "Vocab-u-lous!". Each link will have the corresponding grade levels in parentheses. Click on those links and you'll find an amazing array of free printable school worksheets.

Also on the Printable Library page, the columns on the far left change and offer many more options under Lesson Plans. You'll find interesting subtitles such as Health & Safety and Special Ed & Guidance and with each new link will be more free printables and education tips. What I really like about this site are the various styles of worksheets available. There is sure to be something useful and fun for almost everyone!

These look so much better than the tiny ones which force student to try and write in tiny, cramped letters to fit their answers in the spaces. I'm checking out the sites, thanks!
