Advent is the period of preparation for Christmas. Several special feast days fall during Advent: December 6- St. Nicholas, December 12-Our Lady of Guadalupe and December 13- St. Lucia. Here are free printable activities for St. Lucia Day.

St. Lucia is the patron saint of Scandanvia. Legend tells of a period of great hunger and snow storms in Sweden. St. Lucia is said to have brought warm food and drink to the needy. She appeared dressed in white with a halo of light around her head. On December 13, the feast of St. Lucia, the eldest girl in the family will dress in white and wearing a lighted halo and serve sweet rolls and cocoa to her family and neighbors. We have enjoyed this tradition in our home. Perhaps you would like to explore the legend and feast day of St. Lucia as part of your advent preparations. We anually bring baked goods, Christmas cookies and holiday treats to our neighbors, especially those that are elderly, unemployed, lonely or handicapped.
