Free Science Resources for Elementary Science Teachers

Nannette Richford
Finding quality science resources for your elementary classroom isn't always easy. Although there are tons of online resources, surfing takes time and can turn up sites that simply don't offer what you are looking for. As a teacher, I know how frustrating this can be. Check these sites for quality lessons and links to educational science resources you can use in your classroom today.

Internet4Classrooms
This amazing site allows you to search by science topic or grade level and provides resources for Kindergarten through Grade 7. Find webquests, slideshows, charts, diagrams and projects to motivate your students to learn about science.

Instructional Materials for Science Education (IMSE)
Offers a host of resources for elementary science teachers. Connect with zoos, museums, universities and NASA to inspire your students to excel in science. IMSE provide the opportunity for children to explore the amazing world around them and to visit places they may never see in real life.

Elementary Education Science Resources on the Internet
The University of Vermont has gathered hundreds of resources for elementary science teachers that can be found on the Internet. This one is a bit more difficult to navigate, but does provide a wide range of resources including recommended books, lessons, units and databases. Take time to explore the resources offered on this site.

The Center for Science Education
The UC Berkeley Space Sciences Department offers classroom lessons, educator workshops, hands-on activities, Internet sources and online books designed to engage students in active learning. Activate your student's natural interest in the unknown as they explore the world of space.

Science-Teachers.com
This site provides lessons, units, worksheets, flashcards and puzzles in Life, Space, Earth and Physical science. One disadvantage of this site is that you must download the documents to view them-but it is worth your time to explore as they do provide some resources that you won't find on other sites.

Science should be fun for both you and your students as it gives children an opportunity to explore the world around them. Strive to connect science concepts to real life experiences--and to stretch the imagination by exploring animals, space and places that your students may not be able to explore on their own.
