How is SilverSneakers Free?
Yes, that's right it's free. First, let's examine how it's free. One, you and/or your employer are already paying for health insurance to Fallon. Fallon recognizes the importance of preventive health care, including the essential component exercise and physical fitness plays in overall health. So Fallon subscribes to the SilverSneakers Fitness Program. Consider it a benefit of all the money you pay out for health insurance.
The participating gym receives money from Fallon each time you go to the gym. It's a win-win-win situation for Fallon, for the gym, and best of all, for you.
Why You Should Join SilverSneakers
The SilverSneakers Fitness Program offers specialized exercises for your age group, plus you have full use of the entire gym, pool, treadmills, and any other facilities offered to paying gym members.
Fitness classes designed especially for people in your age group are offered at participating gyms, and are taught by certified instructors. Attending the fitness classes is a fun way to stay in shape, improve your overall fitness level, and meet other seniors who are interested in maintaining their health.
How to Join SilverSneakers
The only health care plan in Massachusetts which currently offers the SilverSneakers program is Fallon Community Health Plan. If you are a current member of Fallon and meet the age restriction (a minimum age) of the participating gym, sign up is easy. Simply call or go to the participating gym to find out when you can come in to sign up for the SilverSneakers Program.
The first time you go to the gym, you will need to dress comfortably, wearing loose clothing and some sneakers. Bring your current Fallon Community Health Plan card to prove eligibility. You will be asked to fill out a SilverSneakers and meet with someone at the gym who will show you around.
Using the SilverSneakers Program
In order to take advantage of the SilverSneakers Program, after your initial sign up, you need to actually go to the gym and use it. The SilverSneakers fitness classes are a comfortable way for seniors of all fitness levels to enjoy a work out with their peers.
When you have questions about the SilverSneakers Program, the pool, the gym equipment, other fitness classes offered at the gym, feel free to ask the gym staff. They are there to help you and make going to the gym a stress-free and positive experience.
Finding a SilverSneakers Program
