Free Shawl and Shrug Patterns

Karen Barnes
I thought the free shrug and shawl patterns would be a great way to add to the numerous other free printables and things I have here at Associated Content. I know over the past year or two I have seen several different retro and antique styles of clothes reappearing with the younger women. So for those who are looking for retro styles of jackets and shawls, these would be a great addition to your wardrobe.

Shrug Patterns

What is a shrug?

I wasn't all to sure what a shrug was when it came to clothing. So here is what a shrug is when it comes to outer garments of clothing. A shrug is a very short jacket that has an open front and long sleeves. Shrugs have become popular again in the past few years. You will see the younger women and girls wearing them over spaghetti strap shirts and tank tops.

A shawl is either a rectangular, triangular or circular shoulder cover that you may have seen in westerns worn by women to keep their shoulders and upper arms warm. Little House on the Prairie has some good examples of shawls worn by the females on cool days.
